WHAT IS ROBOTICS?

Robotics is an interdisciplinary branch of engineering consisting of mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, computer science engineering, and information science engineering.
In other words, robotics was first coined by ISAAC ASIMOV way back in 1942 and Isaac Asimov formulated the three laws of robotics.

THREE LAWS OF ROBOTICS:

FIRST LAW OF ROBOTICS;

Robots may not injure a human being or, through inaction allow a human being to come to harm.

SECOND LAW OF ROBOTICS:

A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the first law of robotics.

THIRD LAW OF ROBOTICS:

A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first and second laws of robotics.

ACTUAL MEANING OF ROBOT

The word robot comes from the Slavic word robota which means work or labor. so it is just a machine programmed to do a complex series of actions. Every robot is a machine but every machine is not a robot.

If a machine can sense and think, only then it can be called a robot. let’s take a look at the three pillars of robotics in detail

SENSE:

Human beings sense the environment around them with the help of sense organs, however, a robot senses the environment around it with the help of sensors, and the robot utilizes the sensors to gather information about its environment.

THINK:

Human beings think with the help of the brain whereas a robot processes the information and thinks with the help of microcontrollers and microprocessors

ACT:

Human beings use legs and arms for carrying out various actions whereas a robot uses motors and various other actuators for carrying out actions. An actuator is a machine that can convert energy from one form into another, in the case of a robot it converts energy from electrical energy into actual mechanical movement.

• Robotics are used in manufacturing, rescue missions, and in the military.
• Robotics are used in factories all over the world.
• Robots can go to the planets and far down into the unknown places and give us information that humans can’t get.
• Robotic pets can help patients with depression and keep them active.

Most of the robots are automatic, so they can move without human interference so that they can be sent to a war zone.

DISADVANTAGES

• Robots need a supply of power, the software and the equipment that need to be used with robots cost a lot of money.
• Robots cost much money in maintenance & repair, the programs need to be kept on updating. The procedure to restore lost code or data may be time-consuming & costly.
• They do not have emotions, so most of the time they can’t interact with people.
• If robots begin to replace humans, this will lead to unemployment.
